Democracy

Some regard “democracy” as simply a majoritarian system of voting. Many more imbue the term with significant symbolic associations. On the left these associations may involve economic equality. On the right they may involve a romantic notion of U.S. history and exceptionalism which may be used to justify foreign policy actions.
