Fact Checking the Fourth 2024 GOP Presidential Primary Debate

Here's what fact-checkers said after the fourth 2024 Republican presidential primary debate on Wednesday night.

Climate Change: USA TODAY Fact Check (Lean Left bias) said businessman Vivek Ramaswamy's claims that the "climate change agenda is a hoax" and that there's been a "98% reduction in climate disaster-related deaths in the last century" are misleading because a "decrease in deaths relating to these natural disasters isn’t proof that climate change is a hoax." 

Free Speech: Ramaswamy and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis accused former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley of wanting to require social media users to be verified by name. Haley said on Nov. 14 that "every person on social media should be verified by their name," but later said she's more concerned about "anonymous Russians and Chinese and Iranians having free speech." Haley accused DeSantis of saying "bloggers should have to register with the state if they’re going to talk about or write about elected officials." She appeared to reference a Florida bill that failed in May. There's no evidence DeSantis supported the bill.

TikTok: Haley said, "For every 30 minutes that someone watches TikTok, every day, they become 17% more antisemitic."  She appeared to misstate data from a study suggesting that spending 30 minutes a day on TikTok increases the chances by 17% that a survey respondent holds antisemitic or anti-Israel views.

China and Fentanyl: Ramaswamy said drugs used to make fentanyl "are coming from labs in Wuhan, China" and going to Mexico. Breitbart Fact Check (Right bias) marked this as "true."
